my mom is so funny… but only in chinese

me: 今天CRV有flat tire
Kitty: 碰到釘子嗎?
me: 昨天轮胎碰到钉字
me: 对
Kitty: 把釘子吃掉
me:  啊啊

(english translation)
me:
today the CRV had a flat tire
Kitty:
was it because of a nail?
me:
yesterday the tire [was punctured by] a nail
me:
yes
Kitty:
eat the nail
me:
haha

to explain: we used to have a running joke in my family that if there’s ever anything (X) giving any of us a problem, we’ll say “eat X,” as if eating it will remedy the problem as well as restore our dignity (not sure how that’s logical). here my mom deemed it appropriate to revive it.

i also realize how scary and culturally un-funny it sounds to say something like that in english.
